Siblings Leo (Joey Millin) and Virginia (Madison West) haven't spoken
to one another since a massive fall-out three years back - and now he
finds her, all strung out, and obviously suffering from withdrawal
symptoms, and yet she swears to him she has stopped using since she has
undergone therapy months ago. She claims though that the organisation she
did the therapy with was a secret cult who used black magic to get her
clean but tied her to a man, and now she feels everything he feels and
vice versa - making her withdrawals symptoms actually his. She also claims
the cult is now after her - and somehow Leo believes her, or at least
believes that she believes enough for her problems only be resolved should
he take her to the cult's headquarters to face them head-on. On the
cross-country journey, the two siblings manage to rekindle their
relationship, even if it's not always easy, and they clash multiple times,
but the stuff they encounter on the road makes Leo believe more and move
that Virginia is not delusional, and her weird story is actually real. Yet
their best-laid plans seem to come to nought when finally arriving at
their destination they find the one thing they haven't been prepared for
... A rather unusual, and for that all the more interesting
piece of horror, as it really puts all genre elements on the backburner
for massive character development, done along the lines of a road movie
premise. And the two leads have just the right chemistry for this, which
is only underlined by the fact that much of their dialogue wasn't actually
scripted but improvised on the spot. And the result of all of this is a
very unusual experience that admittedly will not hit a high note with
horror fanatics, but for those who like to think outside the box this sure
is a worthy watch.
