At a concert of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol's own jazz trio, the
Patrol's core crew figures it would be a great idea to let the band play
in the underwater city of Marina's - she being a tailless, voiceless
mermaid - father as well ... and preparations are made in a haste. What
nobody knows of course is that the manager of the band is in league with
surface agent X20, who in turn is in the employ of evil underwater king
Titan - and Titan hates the World Aquanaut Security Patrol and Marina's
father pretty much equally.
So the evil manager places a bomb in the bass of the combo that's
supposed to go off when a certain note is hit, and to make sure there's
noone to spoil the plan, the manager also kidnaps Troy Tempest -
all-around hero of the Patrol - and leaves him all tied up in a burning
building.
And while all the World Aquanaut Security gang and the band are already
in Marina's father's city and are preparing for a concert, Troy only just
manages to free himself and escape the burning building, make it back to
the Patrol's headquarters, fetch the Patrol's supersub Stingray, and make
it to the underwater city, just before the bassman hits his first (and
probably last) note. He snatches the bass, takes it out to the open sea
and drops it, and not one minute too soon, as it goes off on impact on the
Ocean floor.
Then the jazz concert can finally proceed, with the bassman playing a
substitute bass made out of shells.
Some rather cool, if unexciting, jazz music is the highlight of this
episode. The story as such is a rather forced attempt at suspense
moviemaking that is a bit too textbook-like on one hand, too childish on
the other to really work. There have been worse episdes though.
