Young Anna (Petra Staduan) is so overjoyed about having found that
lovely apartment of hers that she doesn't wonder for one minute while the
former tenant (Traute Furthner) is so anxious to move out. Sure, there are
ugly doilies and knick-knack everywhere, but nothing a trip to the garbage
bin can't fix ... right? Wrong, for some reason, the doilies and the
knick-knack seem to grow back, and even the paint on the ugly wallpaper
becomes see-through in a manner of minutes. That's not the most troubling
aspect of the apartment, the problem is that Anna starts to age rapidly,
about 30 years in a manner of days. She wants to move out, but the
caretaker (Alexander E.Fennon), a man who's sympathetic to her cause,
tells her she can't without finding someone to take over the apartment -
it just doesn't like to be alone ... Anna moves to a hotel, but there
she ages only more rapidly - but doctors can't help her, they just think
she's a hysterical old woman. If she wants to stay alive, the caretaker
tells her, she better moves back in, and looks for someone to take over
the apartment soon - the apartment has been known to act rather vengeful
when left alone. An attempt to burn down the apartment fails when Anna
almost chokes on a doily, and when she tries to hand it over to her
unfaithful ex (Moritz Vierboom), her conscience kicks in the very last
minute. Ultimately, Anna decides to die in the apartment - and in death,
she turns into a doily ... A fun macabre short that manages to
tell an utterly silly story in a compelling way and turn everyday objects
into sources of horror in a hilarious way. It's only very occasional that
the movie loses its path a bit by trying too hard (like when Anna
discovers that wool is growing inside of her, slowly replacing her veins),
but in all this is a well-paced and well-played little flick that will
very probably leave you laughing.
