It's been 100 years since vampire Lord Aspen (Phranque Wright) has
killed the last of the werewolves, Poe (Wolf McKinney), and, to add insult
to injury, he has turned Poe's sister Isabelle (Anastasia Morrigan) into a
vampire. So of course, there's every reason to celebrate that centennial
in style - when out of nowhere and to everyone's surprise, Poe turns up
very much alive, and he demands a rematch. Lord Aspen sees this as a mere
amusement, as having killed Poe hundred years ago there's no doubt in his
mind he can do it again today. Thing is, the cards might have been
restacked since ...
Now this is a movie that by no means re-invents the werewolf
or the vampire genre - but it sure gets a fresh story out of playing with
the genre elements of old. And direction, performances, costumes and
special makeup effects all sure play into the retro-feel of the premise -
as hommage rather than mockery -, resulting in a fun piece of throwback
horror for sure.
