Travelling the universe on earth's runaway moon, the crew of moonbase Alpha
encounters another planet that might be habitable: Piri. & wouldn't you
know it, moon soon enters the orbit around Piri (!). But Piri has a strange
effect on the moonbase's computers, repeatedly feeding them with wrong
information. So Alpha's commander Koenig (Martin Landau) decidesto go down to
Piri himself, & encounters a psychedelic but essentially dead world, plus a
scantily clad girl (Cahteine Schell) introducing herself as servant to the
guardian of Piri. & she invites Koenig, & alkl of the crew of Alpha, to
stay on Piri - in a statze of blissful trance. Koenig naturally refuses, but
when he comes back to the moonbase, he finds the whole crew is already
celebrating their exodkus from the moonbase, & when he tries to put up
opposition, he is put to slep via injection by the moonbase's doctor Russell
(Barbara Bain). When Koenig wakes up again, he sees the whole crew leaving
Alpha in spaceships, & he is the only one left behind (but at least is left
with one last spaceship). At first, Koenig tries to stubbornly stay behind
& wait for the others to come back (though it's never really explained
why), but eventually the servant of the guardian lures him doen to Piri too,
where Koenig finds his entire crew just hanging around in a dope-like trance.
But via electro-shocks, he at least pulls doc Russell out of her stupor ...
which makes the servant girl rather mad so she tries to organize the rest of
the crew in a rebellion against Koenig. But Koenig eventually shoots her &
she is revealed to be a robot. & with her damaged, the thing that was
previously identified as the guardian blows up. & once the guardian has
blown up, the moon leaves Piri's orbit, & the Alphan's have just enough
time to make it back to the moon in their spaceships .... Another
wonderfully silly episode. Especially the Piri-sets are just tripped out. Catherine
Schell, by the way, would rejoin Space 1999 as a regular cast
member the following year, playing the popular character of shapeshifter Maya.
