On his birthday, young Luke (Lucas Oktay) finds his mother (Colleen
Carey) dead in the living room. He's shocked enough to pee himself before
mother gets up and tells him it was just a joke. Luke is disgusted and so
is his father (Lucas Hassel) - and the next morning, mother finds Luke
dead, with his wrists slit open. Of course, this is also just a joke, but
with lethal consequences - consequences that sill affect Luke's life ten
years later (when he's played by Christopher Morson) ... A
(very) darkly humourous film that manages to bring its rather outrageous
premise to life and make a relatable story out of it with a suitably cruel
punchline. All this is brought to life thanks to a restrained directorial
effort that doesn't go for cheap laughs (or laughs at all, the humour of
this film is very subtle), and of course a very solid cast who play it
straight. Totally worth a watch!
