Now there's a concept that's hard to beat, a well established
Austro-Persian filmmaker, Houchang Allahyari, makes a documentary about a
low-to-no budget underground filmmaker, self-assuredly calling himself
Robert Tarantino (a.k.a. Wolf Morrison), with a predilection for trash
movies and a penchant for shooting his movies without any crew, and with
actors who are willing to work for free and enjoy his vision rather than
perfect filming conditions including class A catering and whatnot. Now
this documentary concentrates on Robert Tarantino's film's Vampire City
1 and 2 as well as Blood
City Massacre, and seeing the love that went into making these
movies, which translates well to the screen in this documentary, makes one
really want to watch the movies themselves, no matter if you're into that
kind of film or not, because the passion put into them is just really
infectuous - and that's really the quality of the documentary then,
because it doesn't look down on Robert Tarantino as a no-budget hack but
treats him as equal to Allahyari and gives the audience honest insight
into his way of making movies, and the way of making indie low budget
genre flicks in general, and while the film sure peels away the glamour of
filmmaking as such, its honest approach also adds a fascinating new
dimension to it.
