Tom (Tom Tyler) and Soapy (Eddie Gribbon) head for some job somewhere
in the middle of nowhere when they meet Ranger Bob (Tom London), a swell
guy who's heading for Rio to find out who is continually robbing local
gold transports. A short time after Tom and Soapy have parted ways with
Ranger Bob though, Bob is shot in the back and dies. Suddenly, the
prospect of a job somewhere in the middle of nowhere doesn't sound too
inviting anymore, and Tom decides to instead pose as Ranger Bob and go to
Rio himself to investigate who really killed Bob.
Tom soon finds out that the Rattler (Slim Whitaker) is behind
all the stolen gold shipments and quite possibly behind Bob's murder too,
but neither does Tom know who the Rattler is nor where his hide-out is -
and he also doesn't know that the Rattler has an ally in Rio, respected
banker Mason (William Gould), who's really the head of the organisation.
Eventually, Bob's sister Mary (Marion Shilling) arrives in town looking
for Bob and not knowing that he has been killed, which puts Tom on the
spot since Mason and the Rattler soon find out that he is not actually
Ranger Bob and consequently they try to pin Bob's murder on him and try to
instrumentalize Mary for their evil cause.
Ultimately though, with the help of Soapy - who has to die in the
process -, a few upright Rio citizens and even Mary - whom he convinces he
is not her brother's killer -, Tom turns the tables on the baddies, sets
up a trap that makes the Rattler shoot Mason, then hunts down and kills
the Rattler. and in the end, he naturally gets the girl ...
Mediocre B-Western: It's not really baqd, it's pretty much as good as
the meagre budget would allow, but it's far from great or even memorable.
Definitely nothing to write home about.
