A bunch of high class prostitutes is murdered, and somehow journalist
Conrad (Evan Stone) gets wind of it through his informer, paramedic Buddy.
Thing is that all the deceased were Conrad's sources when doing a write-up
on a prostitution ring and the involvement of Senator Jackson and his son
Jordan. Conrad is quick to suspect either of the two, and he approaches
investigating cops Garrett and Sanchez with his idea - but Garrett won't
listen to him, because it was Conrad who cost him his promotion, and now
he tries to pin the crimes on Conrad out of revenge. It's only thanks to
his partner Sanchez, who's also his part-time lover, that he also follows
up on other leads. Senator Jackson meanwhile has Conrad badly beaten up
for implying his or his son's involvement and has him fired from his
newspaper. In the end, it turns out that Conrad was actually following a
wrong lead, the Senator and his son had nothing to do with it, and even
though Garrett was wrong in trying to pin the murders on Conrad, it was a
good thing that he trailed him anyways, because in the showdown, paramedic
Buddy reveales himself to be the killer who killed all the women because
Conrad once shagged his wife, and now he wants Conrad to go to jail for
the murders he committed. However, Garrett and Sanchez intervene just in
time and shoot Buddy, who was just about to kill another woman ... My
synopsis might not outrightly suggest it, but Power Lines is a
hardcore porn flick. But while it's nice to see that somebody has actually
made the effort to write a porn script with an actual thriller story
including a few twists and turns, the result is definitely less than
great: Basically the whole thing is not all that well-paced, with the many
obligatory sex scenes destroying the narrative rhythm ever so often, the
fact that the first murder scene is a cheat (the senator's son is clearly
identified as the killer here) derails the final solution, and Evan Stone,
a gifted comedian (really) doesn't really cut it in the serious role as a
rugged investigative reporter. As for the sex scenes (which are probably
the main reason for most of the audience to watch this film): They are a
bit too routinely done and expertly lit to really exude much passion, and
whether or not you like them probably depends on how much you like the
individual girls. In all, I have definitely seen worse thrillers and
worse porn flicks, but I have also definitely seen better ones ...
