It seems like a routine job for army General Gibbs (Thomas Reilly): Move his men into a classified area, find and destroy a secret lab, then move out again. Sure, there is word that some of the "specimens" have escaped, but hey, Gibbs' men are all highly trained, and they are even helped by the CIA. So what could go wrong?

Well, for example that the escaped specimens are all flesh-eating zombies who wipe out most of Gibbs' team when they investigate the lab, that the CIA agent (Robert Schiller) who leads the battalion together with Gibbs is quite obviously a traitor, that there is a bomb inside the lab that's going to go off in a few hours to flatten the whole region, and that the lab is all of a sudden surrounded by zombies.

Several of Gibbs' men try to make a break for it, but they are all stopped dead by the zombies, literally. Only one (John Weidemoyer) manages to gain any real ground, but he goes bonkers and becomes a killing machine in the process.

The next morning, Gibbs and the few still with him try to make it to the next village and to safety, but now Gibbs is in for a real shock ...

The army versus zombies - that sounds like maybe not the best idea ever, not by a longshot, but fun anyways, especially when the film based on the idea does not glorify soldiers as such as superior beings but puts the whole concept of playing war into question, even in the eye of a zombie attack. However, Operation: Nazi Zombies is unfortunately not quite the movie it could have been. While it's actually better written than the title Operation: Nazi Zombies might suggest, the film quite simply lacks any and all atmosphere. There are lots of fights and shootouts, and they are tensely conceived, too, but when it comes to scaring the audience, the film is a bit letdown. It just shows everything in an as-is manner, but sadly fails to breathe real life into the proceedings.

That said, the film is no trainwreck, it's actually rather intelligent (if you can swallow the premise), and it has its moments, it's just not the movie it could have been.
