Cop Russo (Eric Feldman) tries to solve a kidnapping case that has
something to do with a case his father (Greg Collins) worked on 15 years
ago, when he was killed in the line of duty. The kidnapped boy turns up
soon enough, but a trail that Russo decides to follow even against the
express orders of his superiors, leads to all powerful Phenix
Pharmaceuticals. Pregnant investigative
reporter Deborah (Kathryn Fiore) is trying to dig up some dirt on Phenix
Pharmaceuticals, a company she thinks is conducting human experiments at
their insane
asylum to develop biological weapons under the guise of developing a new
pregnancy medication called Reficul. Phenix Pharmaceuticals is of course
every bit as evil as it can be, as it is run by Sanders (Gary Hudson), a
man who has supernatual powers since being touched by a demon (which is
kept in the asylum's basement by the way) and Doctor Fabrian (Lance Henriksen), your
typical mad scientist (who later turns out to be the devil though). And by
the way, Reficul is Lucifer spelled backwards, not that I'm sure why. After
much to and fro, both Russo and Deborah come face to face with Fabrian in
his insane asylum, and it's revealed that Deborah is not only the daughter
of Sanders who has been given a set of fake memories, but she has also
been the girl whom Russo's father had been looking for 15 years ago when
he was killed. Plus, she has inherited her father's supernatural powers.
Faced with his own daughter, Sanders switches sides and tries to help her
against Fabrian, but by now, Fabrian has stripped him of his powers and
has made sure Deborah is going to kill him. Still, Fabrian gets his just
desserts, and even the demon in the basement is taken care of ... and after
all those years, Russo returns Deborah to her real mother. Everything is
fine it seems, Russo and Deborah become a couple, she has her baby, and
they life a happy life in suburbia ... only their baby seems to have
supernatural powers, and in the guise of the mailman, Fabrian is looking
after the tot. Admittedly, this synopsis doesn't make too much
sense, but then again, neither does the movie as such, it's nothing more
than conspiracy theory cinema at its worst, in which a single silly idea
is blown up to feature length size without noone even caring about
plausible plot development, more-than-one-dimensional characters, or even a proper story to tell. The whole thing is just a convoluted mess
that seems to lead to nowhere and comes to a (half-hearted) finale at a
rather deliberate point within its storyline. Definitely not worth your
time and money.
