Back in New York, Mister Antonio (Leo Carrillo) has helped drunk Milton
Jorny (Frank Reicher) stay out of trouble - and out of jail. Now Antonio
has come to the village Jorny is mayor at, and he learns his friend isn't
such a nice guy after all, as he has just thrown his niece June (Virginia
Valli) out of his house because she was seen partying on a Sunday (since
he runs on the Purity League's ticket that's a scandal Jorney can't
afford), but refuses to give the girl the money left by her mother. Antonio
tries to sort things out with Jorney, but is thrown into jail for his
attempt.and only eventually freed by his loonie sidekick Joe (Gareth
Hughes). Antonio returns to the mayor's place, but this time there's no
more Mr Nice Guy, as he blackmails Jorney to accept June back into the
family and to give her her money. Jorney strikes back though when he
promises June, whom Antonio has in the meantime fallen in love with, to
his son (Franklin Lewis), making Antonio's victory a Pyrrhic one. In the
end though Anbtonio gets the girl after all ... Less than great
low budget melodrama that shows signs of socio-political satire, but
ultimately abandons its good intentions to in favour of a run-of-the-mill
romance plot. And Leo Carrillo's performance as kind-hearted Italian is a
bit too clichéd to really work and actually gets slighly annoying before
too long.
