Cristina (Valeria Vallejos) and Monica (Kathryn Romine) are two women
from separate walks of life: While Cristina is a maid, Monica has just
promoted to a high level job at an ad agency - but neither woman feels
entirely comfortable in her job, Cristina because her boss Gary (Regen
Wilson) makes inappropriate advances, while Monica feels blatant sexism
among her colleagues. But when Monica tries to report it, she's pretty
much threatened with demotion, which finds her in a catch 22 situation.
Gary meanwhile tries to rape Cristina - an attempt she manages to thwart,
but of course she has no evidence to report him, and has to quit her job
as a consequence. It seems all is lost for the two women, until their
paths cross ...
True, my synopsis might make this film sound like a
"message movie" first and foremost, but the film's much subtler
in its storytelling than any synopsis can ever do it justice, it leaves
much unsaid and unshown and only hinted upon, which makes the film much
more powerful, makes the both latent and outright sexism - also as a
breeding ground for sexual violence - much more palpable, even to the male
of the species. And two strong central performances only add to the
film's power. Definitely worth a look!
