Ygor (Irwin Keyes) has been Dr. Dalca's (Robert Joy) faithful assistant
for years, seeing him trying and failing bringing the dead back to life
time and again, digging up corpses for the Doctor pretty much every other
day ... since the Doctor has forbidden Ygor to actually murder his test
subjects. And when the police finally got on the Doctor's trail, it was
Ygor who helped him escape, even if he himself had been incarcerated for
his master's crimes, and later sold to the circus. Now Dr Dalca is
looking for a new assistang via Craigslist, and he thinks he has found the
right person in Caroline (Malia Miglino) ... and when another experiment
fails miserably, he decides to murder Caroline in order to (with a bit of
luck) bring her back to life later. But then Ygor intervenes ... Especially
if you like vintage Frankenstein
movies, this movie's a treat as it pays loving hommage to the films of
old, and it stays clear from just being moronic in its slight parody. This
is of course greatly facilitated by a directorial effort that clearly
draws from the films of old, but also knows when to shift styles, and an
ensemble cast knowing how to fill their characters with lives and even
more so heart - which is also a bit of a problem, admittedly, as the film
seems to have too much heart to really go over-the-top when needed, but
that said the film still has plenty of enjoyable moments.
