Rose (Tiffany Arscott) has a pretty unique condition: whenever she's
sexually aroused, she has the absolute urge to kill the person who arouses
her. This way, she has killed quite a few prospective lovers, and hasn't
felt a grain of guilt about it. But there are one or two problems with the
condition: On one hand Rose can never have any sort of lovelife, and on
the other, hiding the bodies can be quite a drag. Unexpectedly, she
finds a solution for the latter when she wants to dump her latest
almost-lover into the river and is caught by two mobsters (Jason Rudy, Bob
Herron) - who figure a person with her "problem" could serve
them greatly while they would get rid of the bodies for her. So within a
matter of weeks, Rose becomes the mob's top hitwoman. Then though, Rose
meets Sam (Rae Wright), a beautiful waitress (who later turns out to be a
hermaphrodite), and the two fall in love. Weirdly enough, Sam is suffering
from the same condition as Rose is, and she takes her to a self-help group
led by one doctor Kay (Will Robonson), where others in the same situation
tell about their experiences with murdering their lovers. Doctor Kay by
the way might be responsible for the condition they are all suffering
from, he has helped develop a vitamine pill with somewhat fatal
sideeffects. Now he wants to make amends though ... The meeting has
convinced Rose to try a drug that will suppress her homicidal feelings,
and then she has sex with Sam - which works out beautifully ... then Rose
brutally slaughters Sam though, because she prefers to remain herself to
becoming a drugged out sex zombie ... Ok, the premise of this
film is pretty silly, and the film plays it straight - which could be
recipe for disaster ... yet somehow Love Blade works, basically
probably because all of the involved knew about the somewhat ridiculous
premise, and thus the film shows a strong ironic undercurrent, without
ever becoming actually moronic. Add to this decent pacing, with sudden
outbursts of violence coming at just the right times, very nice camerawork
and a competent cast ... and you've got yourself a pretty cool film.
