A man (Willim Marshall) finds himself in the woods, gouverned by the
vague feeling there's something he needs to run away from, and that he's
actually not awake but dreaming. Thing is, whatever he does to wake
himself up, he always ends up back in the woods, always on the run from
whatever-it-is - and whatever-it-is is a sleep demon (Jamie Curran) that
has somehow entered his dreams, and through our hero is on the verge of
entering reality ... Lost in Sleep is a very impressive
mood piece, one that not only features great locations and camerawork but,
by following a nightmare-like logic, also adds to the atmosphere with its
story that might feel somewhat skeletal and (intentionally) confusing as
it's short on explanations and backstories, but gets the underlying
mystery just right. Also a disquieting sound design and William Marshall's
properly unbalanced performance help to get this one off the ground very
beautifully.
