Michael Lanyard (Louis Hayward) is hired by rich Anita Lawson (Anabel
Shaw) to retrieve her son Kip (Eugene Mazzola), who has apparently been
kidnapped by her ex-husband (and the kid's father) Blake (John Doucette),
an oil prospector. Lanyard is quick to get employment in Blake's company,
then wins Blake's trust by saving his life. Finally, he somehow manages to
follow him to the place where he has hidden Kip, which he keeps a secret
from even his closest friends, and finds out that Blake is actually the
best of fathers to his son, who has only kidnapped Kip because he saw no
way to get legal custody for him. Lanyard figures he's working for the
wrong side, so he brings back Kip to Anita, who's actually a money-hungry
bitch, but blackmails her into legally handing over the kid to her
ex-husband. One of the weaker episodes of Lone Wolf,
simply because it's just too cheesy to really work, and even the happy
ending is a bit too sugar-coated. Somehow, crime stories, kids and family
values just don't go well together.
