Four teenaged girls - sexpot Tina (Jessica Willis), cute one Jordan
(Shanon Snedden), the stressed out one Kathy (Taylor LeeAnn Graham), and
of course the one who dresses like a cat Stephanie (Jori Gill) - decide to
spend the weekend in an possibly abandoned cabin somewhere in the woods,
basically for some kicks and some wild partying ... but then Stephanie
gets lost, and the others trying to track her down find themselves in a
maze of horrors, made all the more confusing as the girls don't know what
they're fighting. They also eventually meet Remington (Joshua Winch), a
guy who might have been caught in the place much longer than them but
who's willing to join forces - but whatever the odds, it always seem they
are fighting a lost battle ... Lake Fear is a film that
horror fans are bound to love to some extent, simply because it's very
good at playing with genre mainstays, because it knows how to create
atmosphere, and how to give the audience a feel of unease - all of which
are of course ingredients of the backbone of every good horror flick. What
Lake Fear's less than perfect though is to tell a good, stringent
story or flesh out interesting characters - basically both is abandoned
once the scary stuff sets in. Of course the movie still works even then
because it's really well-directed ... but definitely could do with some
more flesh on its bones.
