Lovers Ian (Ian Meadows) and Sam (Harriet Dyer) are going on a camping
trip to a remote lake and wonder why the tent next to theirs remains empty
all day and night - until they take a peek inside and find it rather on
the trashed side. They soon also find a toddler (Liam Parkes, Riley
Parkes) wandering the woods completely on its own and figure he might
belong to whoever's tent it is - but find out they can't make it to town
as a tire of their car has been slashed. Thank God then a local hunter,
Chook (Aaron Glenane) stops by, and suggests to go looking for the boy's
family with them - whom they soon find, all shot dead. But what's more
worrying is that they were actually tortured, raped and killed by Chook
and his hunting buddy German (Aaron Pederson) - and they are not very keen
on having the word get out, so obviously, Ian and Sam get a place on top
of their hunting list ... Now ok, so Killing Ground
doesn't break any new ground when it comes to plot - but what might be
lacking in originality is made up in its clever narrative structure that
tells two story threads which happen days apart from one another in a
parallel way, with events in one thread directly affecting those in the
other, and these causalities are only revealed when about a third into the
movie - which totally adds to the tension of the movie rater than being
irritating. Now add to that a very atmospheric directorial effort making
perfect use of the beautiful scenery, and plenty of great suspense scenes,
and you've got yourself a pretty exciting movie!
