Evil organisation Shocker, this time led by monster Chameleon (Ritsuo
Sawa, voiced by Bunya Nakamura), have fingered professor Sunada (Takashi
Kanda) to hold the secret of Hitler's treasure he tried to smuggle out of
Germany to restore the Third Reich - and thus threaten his sick daughter's
(Kujiko Arai) life to give up the secret. But somehow, cyborg superhero Kamen Rider
(Hiroshi Fujioka) gets his hands on the map leading to another treasure
map first. But Shocker have figured out his weaknesses and lure him into a
trap - which he escapes because he has somehow gotten his hands on the
other treasure map as well. So Shocker kidnap professor Sunada and the
Rider's almost-girlfriend Ruriko (Chieko Morikawa) to give up that map -
which he does, and it's time for a showdown at the abandoned location of
the Osaka Expo (1970), when he ultimately catches everybody by surprise by
jumping out of the Nazi treasure box, giving all the Shocker minions a
good beating before annihilating Chameleon in a one-on-one fight. Hitler's
treasure he has by the way dumped into the Pacific Ocean, seeing it only
brings out the worst in man. If you're into Kamen Rider (or
early 1970s Japanese superhero TV as such) for whatever reason, you'll
like this double-episode in all probability, as it delivers in terms of
action and over-the-topness - however, at the same time it's just nothing
special, despite the Nazi backstory, despite the chameleon-like monster,
despite a treasure hunt and a surefire death trap for out hero it's really
just business as usual, with a story a little too predictable to evoke
much interest on top of the nostalgia factor. Not really a bad
double-episode, just same-old-same-old - times two.
