Since the 1980s, accountants Charles (Ray Bergen, Timothy J. Cox in
flashbacks) and Maryanne Bailey (Kathy McCort, Colleen Sproull in
flashbacks) have had 19 assistants, and not one of them was perfect, and
the more perfect they seemed, the bigger the problem with them was - and
this is a look back at their first three There was the one who
worked hard but had a personal hygenie problem, there was that girl (Kate
McGarrigle) who tried to one-up each and every of their clients,
especially when they were telling tragic stories and longed for sympathy,
and there was also Susan (Maryann Lonergan), basically the most honest
person on the planet - who was wanted for a bank robbery. But the Baileys
are sure, with their new assistant Rebecca (Coco Conroy) all that will
change - just they don't really know Rebecca yet ... One can't
help but love this short for its approach that borrows heavily from
yesteryear's sensationalist (and often heavily biased) documentaries and
basically paints the world of accounting as if it was some great adventure
- which gives the story the film tells just the right ironic edge to
utterly work (well, that and being rather cleverly written in the first
place of course. And naturally, strong performances by the whole ensemble
also help to make this one really fun little movie!
