Danny (Jai Rodriguez) is a sort of loveable loser: Somebody who hasn't
got it in his nature to hurt a fly, but who lets others talk him into
doing bad things constantly, and whose life decisions have rendered him
pennyless - but all that's going to change, since his granny (Leslie
Easterbrook) is on the verge of dying and then he'll inherit her vast
fortune. But when Danny returns to his hometown to check up on granny, she
tells him she has disinherited him and plans to donate everything to
charity. Of course that hits him like a sledgehammer, but then he meets up
with two friends, Seth (Kevin Sizemore) and Rudy (Jose Rosete), and they
talk him into helping them rob the bed-ridden old lady. All he has to do
is to check out granny's place to give them some oversight, then take
granny's cute nurse Alex (Tara Macken) out for a date, so Seth and Rudy
won't be disturbed. Now the date goes better than expected, and Danny and
Alex even hop into bed together afterwards, but Seth and Rudy aren't the
quickest with the safe, and when Alex catches them the next morning, they
see themselves forced to knock her out, tie her up, and force the
combination to the safe out of her - and that's where the problems start,
as Alex is anything but a helpless victim, she manages to free herself and
fight her way out of granny's house, with skills she has acquired while
she was a special ops. But once she has escaped the house, she makes plans
to return and take down the intruders - something that can go both ways,
as they're about evenly matched ... Especially for being an
action movie mostly limited to one location, Intensive Care comes
across as surprisingly fresh, thanks to a script full of original ideas
and unexpected twists, a swift directorial effort, greatly staged action
sequences, spots of comedy na (self-)irony throughout, and very likeable
performances. In all, an extremely enjoyable movie!
