Chip (J.P. Valenti) has a gambling habit that has gotten out of control
of late, so he has turned to crime to support it, clearing illegal
gambling dens so nobody could set the police on him. He thinks he's so
clever, but his trademark monkey mask he wears for these robberies has
long given him away - and the very man (Jonathan Tavares) who sets
up his high stake games has long hired someone (Nick Miti) to take care of
him ... In essence, Illusions is an extended video to
Nick Miti's song of the same name, a downtempo rap tune - but that said,
the film stays well away from rap video clichés or the conventions of
traditional videos, and tells its story in a very cinematic style that
gives at least as much attention to the narrative, the characters and the
actors as it gives to the song - and that really works, too, as everybody
seems to be really up to the task to make this a powerful little thriller
rather than a throwaway product of the music industry. Well worth a
look, even if rap music is not something you'd listen to.
