As a kid, Nicole (Lily Tomei) persuaded her best friend Hooper (Patrick
Mallin) to accompany her to the woods to find the "Greenies",
half-human creatures from urban legend they both don't really believe exist - but
it's a dare between kids still. Only, the Greenies do exist and they take
Hooper captive while Nicole manages to get away. When the police
investigates, they can't find a trace of Hooper, much less of the
Greenies. Years later, Nicole (now played by Katelyn Lane) has come to the
belief that maybe she has only imagined the Greenies and the truth was
much more mundane, if no less terrifying. But when she returns to the spot
of wood where she has last seen Hooper, she is in for a ghastly surprise
... A very nice horror miniature that might not actually break
any new ground narratively but handles its plot very well, telling its
story in a fittingly streamlined fashion and focusing on suspense and
atmosphere rather than veering off and trying to explain things away. In
line with this, the creatures are kept very basic in design, but they
don't fail to impress. And a competent cast giving relatable performances
sure help to make this good genre fun.
