Investigating the murder of Hans (Klaus Pohl), who was drowned in the
Atlantic Ocean near Lisbon, Portoguese cop Miguel Guilherme finds a
videocamera with tape that obviously belonged to him, which in turn
leads our cop to tourist girl Sylvie Testud. It seems that she had been
the deceased's housesitter for a while, though his relations towards her
were pretty awkward (it ends with him persuading her to disguise as
another woman), & it soon seems that she was just a pawn in some
criminal game that Hans & her lover Fernando were playing, a game
which neither Hans nor Fernando (he died in a motorbike crash, while
she, also on the bike, miraculously got away unscathed) survived. But in
the end, as our cop finds another videotape among the belongings of the
girl, thsi might shed an entirely different light onto the proceedings:
In fact the girl had been looking for her girlfriend who was last seen
in the company of Hans & Fernando, before entirely disappearing.
Could it be that our girl was behind all the deaths ?
As a criminalistc puzzle, this movie is not without interest, as it
refuses to give any definite answers, giving way to the viewers own
interpretations of the proceedings. At the same time though, it's rather
devoid of suspense.
