Prostitute Donna (Heather Brittain O'Scanlon) might just have
accidently killed her john (Sanj Surati) in what was at best a minor
altercation, but now she finds herself on the run, and ducks into a curio
shop - and finds the shopkeeper (Adam Ginsberg) to be more than
sympathetic to her cause, so much so that she soon opens up to him,
telling her tale of woe, about how she had once been a caring wife and
mother, who eventually got crushed by her job in big business - so much so
that she started taking drugs to keep her running, but neglecting her
family in the process, so much so that her husband (John Zion) divorced
her. Soon after that, she lost her job, but as she failed to kick the
habit, she eventually slid into prostitution - which eventually led her to
here. Still, the shopkeeper seems to be sympathetic as can be, so much so
that he grants her a wish. Thing is, she might want to be careful what to
wish for ... A likeably macabre morality play that doesn't try
to hammer its message home though but wrapped into a well-constructed and
nicely told tale populated by fleshed-out characters that ends in a dark
twist. And a suitably subtle direction and solic cast sure help bring this
to life. Well worth a watch.
