Ever since the death of his veteran dad Steve (Peter Lloyd), little
James (Gus Barry) has acted oddly, driving his stressed out mum Bryony
(Rebecca Reaney) nuts, and she things all the mishaps happening in the
house are his fault - and the little one is certainly not making it easier
on her as he's constantly sulking and refusing to talk to her. Problem,
the things that are happening are less and less likely to actually be a
little boy's fault, only mum is too stressed out to see it. It ultimately
takes the clearer and more open mind of her younger sister Lisa (Lara
Lemon) to get through to the boy, and she manages to eventually convince
Bryony that little James has telekinetic powers that manifest themselves
when he's upset, and he tries to train James to control them. However,
James denies to have any such powers - and eventually the two women have
to come to terms with the fact that there's something much darker at work
... An interesting little supernatural thriller that really
keeps one guessing for the longest time by avoiding clichés and
delivering quite a few surprise plottwists, banking on strong characters
and performances, and using its relatively relaxed pace to properly build
up the story instead of overpowering its audience with pure spectacle.
Only the finale, in contrast to everything that went on before, pretty
much falls back onto genre mainstays, but in the context of the story,
even that works just fine. Well worth a watch!
