Dating people one is not totally, or even not at all compatible with?
Sure, it happens all the time, and I bet most of you have been through
this at one time in their lives at least. The one positive aspect about
these relationships: One has a strong argument when breaking up, one both
parties will come to understand eventually ... right? Shaun (Shaun
Callaghan) has been dating a Reaper (Diana Porter) for the last few weeks,
but his goldfish, the dog, the mailman and the neighbour dying have had
him think over the relationship - but how do you break up with a Reaper? Basically,
what Dark Roast is is fun: Sure it's about a painful experience
most of us have experienced at one time or another (and it's immaterial on
which side of the fence one stands, it's rarely ever completely pain-free
- and yup, a kick in the balls registers as pain as well) - but it's told
in a light-footed way where the supernatural aspect seems to have been
added almost as an afterthought - even if I'm sure it wasn't. And besides
a well.written script it's subtlety in both direction and performances
that really make this short work.
