Wrapped into a interview between reporter Samantha (Jessica Hunt),
conspiracy theory expert Conor Roberts (Martin W. Payne) and professional
cynic Shwartz (Kevin Cordell) about the phenomenon of conspiracy theories
as such, and their origins, are shorts about the illuminati controlling a
job interview, mobile phones causing havoc, the ties between the KGB, the
religious right and 9/11, illegal drug testing, paranormal investigators,
a Bigfoot-like
creature called Skunkape, the "dark web", and the mysterious
death of a "truthseeker" (read conspiracy theorist). But while
making this documentary, our heroes might be watched by malevolent sources
- or is that just another conspiracy theory? The concept of
this movie is a really cool one, it gathers filmmakers from all walks of
(indie film) life to have them make their "conspiracy theory"
short to then wrap them all in an interesting and ultimately engaging
meta-story - and while the result might be viewed as a bit of a hodge
podge by some, it actually contains some really good movies that might
vary quite a bit in quality, tone and look, but that's also the beauty of
it, that these films don't follow any rigid formula but go from funny to
dead serious, from artsy to schlocky, and everything in between of course,
making for quite an entertaining watch to be sure.
