Florida in the hurricane season: Sophie (Amandla Stenberg) crashes her
best friend David's (Pete Davidson) hurricane party with her new
girlfriend Bee (Maria Bakalova) - after all, what could be safer in a
hurricane than a mansion like that of David's parents that has weathered
many a storm. And the party's going very well, too, with plenty of drugs
and booze and party games, and a certain degree of bitching between the
girls at the party and a game of alpha dog between David and the only
other male, PTSD-stricken veteran Greg (Lee Pace), are really part of the
fun. That is until David turns up dead, his throat slit. Everybody
immediately suspects Greg, which ultimately leads to an altercation
between Greg and the girls where Bee kills Greg in self defense. That
should be it, but when more of the girls gradually turn up dead, the
situation gets more and more out of hands, not at all made better by the
fact that Jordan (Myha'la Herrold), sort of the queen bee of the group,
carries a gun. An escalation of the situation and even more deaths are the
logical consequence ... Now I wouldn't exactly call this the
brainiest film out there, after all it's basically a formulaic teen
slasher (or maybe not, considering the ultimate solution), but as teen
slashers go, this is lots of fun: For one it has some fun characters in
there, plus the film has an ironic, even comedic touch to it, but without
ever going full moronic, and some of the lines, mostly circling around
social media in the least appropriate of moments, are just really funny
and spot on, also through their awkward placement. So in all, don't expect
utter greatness or a re-invention of the wheel, just lean back and enjoy.
