Independently from one another, Georgy (Kirill Käro) and Alla (Olga
Lomonosova) find out that their bot Arisa has actually killed two people
and throw her out of their house, much to the dismay of their daughter
Sonya (Vitaliya Kornienko). Meanwhile their son Egor (Eldar Kalimulin) is
sick of everything that's going on and he and his girlfriend Jeanne (Vera
Panfilova) plan to run away with one another. Jeanne's brother Bars
(Aleksandr Kuznetsov) meanwhile wants to pretty much move the Liquidators
away from Gleb's (Fyodor Lavrov) influence - upon which Gleb shoots him
and buries him alive ... but Bars comes out of this pretty much unscathed,
and returns to his bar right when Stryga (Ivan Fominov), whom Gleb has
deemed his successor, tries to rape Bars' sister Jeanne, and Bars kills
him in a fit of rage - which puts a spanner in the works regarding Egor
and Jeanne's escape. Victor (Aleksandr Ustyugov) meanwhile has found out
that his wife (Irina Tarannik) tries to sabotage his plans to win the bid
for the gouvernment contract for Arisa - but really he has other problems,
as with Arisa kicked out from home, she remembers her prime directive, to
protect the family unit, something that includes killing Victor ... Unfortunately,
after a very promising early bunch of episodes, this series has gone full
soap opera mode, inasmuch as only bits of each narrative thread are told
each episode, them being by and large independent from one another and are
inching to a resolution at snail pace. That said, Better Than Us
is still an interesting series, it just gets a bit frustrating to watch,
since watching means always expecting something to happen which never
does.
