Small fry journalist Frank Suarez (Randy Vasquez) thinks he has finally
made it to the big league when presidential candidate Edward Ashe (Rick
Ravanello) agrees to be interviewed by him - and God knows Frank deserves
a break, as his wife (Marilyn Sanabria) has only recently died from
cancer, his daughter Elise (Fernanda Moya) makes him responsible for her
death and thus hates him, and he has lately had suicidal tendencies and an
ongoing alcohol problem. Thing is, his interviewee is pretty controversial
himself, he's right-leaning, borderline racist, isolationist and a wannabe
dictator. However, when interviewing him, Frank is to remain civil, to not
jeopardize his career. However, if he does that, Ashe's almost sure to win
the election. And then Frank receives a visit from an acquaintance who
makes a suggestion on how to stop Ashe that has nothing at all to do with
journalsim ... Now this movie quite obviously alludes to the
2016 US presidential election - even if Edward Ashe is nowhere near as
bizarre and really lawless as Donald Trump - and despite some of the
symbolism being a little thick and the drama at times heavy-handed, it
works as a pretty accurate mirror to today's political landscape as well
as a character study in the guise of a political thriller. And keeping a
major plotpoint open till the finale sure keeps up the suspense and the
audience on the edges of their seats, resulting in a pretty cool watch.
