Somehow, Robin Hood (Richard Greene) and his merry men pick up
Bartholomew (Peter Hammond), a jongleur who has fallen from grace with the
Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Wheatley).
A short time Robin they learns that the Sheriff's latest tax collection
is kept under safe guard at the castle of the Cout de Waldern (Willoughby
Gray) - but he figures that he and Little John (Rufus Cruikshank) might
gain access to the castle (and the gold) anyhow in the disguise of
jongleur Bartholomew assistants. What Robin doesn't know of course is that
Bartholomew is actually one of the Sheriff's spies, and before you know
it, Robin is gravely injured (which later turns out nothing more than red
wine - no joke) and he and Little John are put under arrest. Suddenly
though, Bartholomew's guilty conscience gets the better of him, and
disguised as the castle's physicist, he breaks Robin and Little John free,
helps them steal the gold and assists them in their escape from the castle
- but to really atone for his sins, he of course has to die a hero's death
in the end ...
So-so episode, putting a bit too much emphasis on the jongleur's magic
tricks and being a bit too blunt in storytelling, but on the other hand
told at a quick enough pace to make up for some of its shortcomings.
