A bunch of teens are off for a camping trip, but they have a flat tire
along the way. Walking off looking for help, they run into old Shinjiro,
who promises to help them in the morning and invites them to spend the
night at his home. Now there are a few red flags when it comes to this,
like why does it look like our teens have been expected, and what about
these weird girls that seem to be Shinjiro's slaves, but then our heroes
have no better option and will in - to spend a quiet night, then being
hunted down and killed the next morning by Shinjiro and his whole village
to end up as main course at the village barbecue. Now our teens fight, but
the villagers sure have the moment of surprise on their side, so they end
up dead - though not all of them, as a handful have actually come prepared
and have come to the village to have revenge for those who have fallen
victims to the villagers earlier. Thing is, as valiant fighters as they
are, they're still outnumbered. Plus, the village has another, even more
terrible secret ...
Now I will admit, the first act of the movie is a bit slow,
with nothing really happening, and irritatingly the first ten or so
minutes are filmed found footage style as well, which doesn't serve the
movie well. But once the action does set in, it never lets up, and the
film ultimately turns out to be a blend of folk and survival horror and
martial arts film with slightly absurd elements and undercurrents, a blend
that's bound to suck in the dedicated genre fan for sure.
