Holly (Gwendolynn Murphy) and Cameron (Gracie Whitton) have literally
just moved into their new house when they are visited by neighbours Lois
(Ashley Felkner) and Barbie (Tricia Mauro), who invite them to a
neighbourhood watch meeting - which is something Holly isn't really
interested in, also because Lois and Barbie seem a bit weird, but
ultimately she agrees. Once at the neighbourhood watch meeting, Lois,
Barbie and their friends (Natalie Jones, Kara Rainer, Katy Key) reveal to
Holly and Cameron that they are actually witches, and that they want to
welcome Holly into their coven, which would also mean that Cameron had to
be sacrificed. Of course, Holly says no, and she isn't at all impressed by
all the threats coming from the five witches, denies that they are
witches even, but it's only when the coven gives a little (and rather
modest) demonstration of its power that Holly pulls an ace of her own from
her sleeve ... A fun little short for sure as despite a great
plot twist, it doesn't focus just on getting their but on storytelling as
such, and it plays things slightly tongue-in-cheek too without ever
becoming moronic. And a light-footed directorial approach as well as very
solid performances from all the involved make this a very entertaining
piece of suburban horror.
