Sam Hill (Michael Schmid) just has a really bad day, from waking up
next to an unloving wife (Anita Nicole Brown) to realizing the milk's gone
bad, from being heckled by the papergirl (Riley Sebby) to being pestered
by his boss (Harold Dennis) at the diner he works at, from being fed
laxatives with his coffee to finding out his wife has an affair, and they
use his favourite lube, too. And just when he thinks it can't get any
worse, he's beaten up at a bar. But lying there, on the floor of the
place, he meets Bethany (Lillian Lamour), who helps him up and tells him
if he has a bad day, then he ought to make the next day better ... Quite
a hilarious little comedy about the empowerment of the little guy,
something that will strike a chord with most of us. Now sure, the whole
thing's a bit episodic, and some of the jokes are a bit on the crude side,
but it's hard not to root for Sam Hill (also but not only thanks to a
great performance by Michael Schmid), and while not all the humour might
be to everyone's taste, there are many great ideas in there too (including
a busload of totally irreverent ham references), plus a strong supporting
cast turn this into something really worthwhile.
