Yukinko (Sachiko Tominaga) lives in a village in the mountains that
prospers because of having found a niche in winter tourism. For some
reason though, nobody in the village likes Yukinko, and when the villagers
attack her, she always calls for Woo, a giant snow monster. The council of
the village sees its tourism-revenues threatened by the monster and thus
calls in Science Patrol, but one of the Patrol-men, Ide (Masanari Nihei) -
usually the comic relief - doesn't think it's right to fight the monster
as he sympathizes with the girl. However, when Woo launches an all-out
attack on the village, Hayata (Susumu Kurobe) turns into his secret alter
ego, giant robot Ultraman (Bin Furuya) to fight the monster - but it
disappears when Yukinko calls it for help. Likewise, Yukinko was never
again seen after this incident, and the Science Patrolmen come to the
conclusion that both Yukinko and Woo were only the stuff of legends and
never really there. One of the more thoughtful episodes of Ultraman
inasmuch as the righteousness of fighting and killing monsters is
challenged for the first time - but to not get too brainheavy I suppose
the monster chosen to carry the story was one of the goofier-looking ones
featuring in the series, and the ending makes no sense at all. Still good
childish fun though.
