One day, pretty much out of the blue, Commander Straker (Ed Bishop) of
the secret alien defense organisation SHADO, is struck down by an innocent
citizen, bank clerk Clark (David Collings), and when he comes to, he finds
a letter detailing three targets of pretty much imminent attacks, spiced
up with enough information to make the letter a believable threat. And
really, later that night, Clark blows up a defense compound affiliated
with SHADO - and nobody knows how he has done it, being unarmed and
everything. Next on the list is the underwater interceptor Skydiver 3,
but this time, SHADO has come prepared, so when another innocent citizen,
construction foreman Mason (Mike Pratt), wants to enter the submarine, he
is intercepted ... but somehow manages to blow up the boat anyhow, even
though he was completely unarmed. By now it has of course become clear
that the perpetrators have all been brainwashed and given supernatural
powers by the alien attackers, since there is a UFO hiding somewhere ... The
third target is SHADO headquarters itself and Straker, too. All of SHADO
is feverishly looking for the next assassin, and eventually, Straker's
second in command Foster (Michael Billington) comes up with sexy secretary
Linda (Deborah Grant) as the only logical choice - but then he falls in
love with her and takes her to SHADO hq on his own free will ... and there
her brainwashing and superpowers soon kick in. However in the meantime
SHADO interceptors have tracked down the brainwash-UFO and shot it to
Kingdom Come, so when Linda tries to blow up SHADO hq using high voltage
electric cables (of which there are plenty on site), she only electrocutes
herself. Mostly, a fun episode, with many incredibly well-made
miniature explosions. Only the ending is a bit of a letdown, as it's as
predictable as it lacks any real tension, but other than that, there's
little to complain about in this episode.
