Larry Evans (Rex Lease) is a self-absorbed and publicity loving
racecardriver who wins race after race for old man Corbett (Tom Moore),
creator of his car, and he takes it as a given that Corbett's daughter
Norma (Muriel Evans) is in love with him. Then though, his fiercest rival,
evil DeSylva (Duncan Renaldo) forces him into a crash, and as a result,
Larry is hospitalized and has to realize that he might never be able to
move his legs again ... and now it's him - who pushes Norma, who never
liked him very much but now wants to care for him - away.
Eventually, all of Larry's friends, Corbett, Norma and his mechanic
Steve (Charles Delaney] move to the West to participate in another racecar
series and leave him behind. A few months later, Larry has learned to walk
again and pays a visit to them ... and it turns out he's totally broke,
but still he refuses to get back behind the wheel and race for Corbett
because he still hasn't gotten over his crash ...
However, DeSylva wants to get his hands on Corbett's motor patent, so
first he tries to get it by dating Norma, later he has them stolen by his
gang while at the same time getting driver Adams (Eddie Davis) to race for
Corbett just to make sure he, DeSylva nd not Corbett's car will win the
race.
However, Larry has in the meantime gotten wind of DeSylva's evil
schemes so he single-handedly overcomes DeSylva's gang, then takes over
the Corbett-car from Adams with just ten more laps to go, and wouldn't you
know it, in the end he beats DeSylva in the race. Ah yeah, and he gets the
girl, Norma, too ...
Mediocre drama that might hold some interest for people (like myself)
who like vintage racecars because it features quite some authentic race
footage (though not nearly enough in my view), but other than that, the
film is rather formulaic and holds little surprises.
