Babs (Liza Goddard) is terribly insecure with men & thus taken by her
friend Holly (Caroline Goodall) to a luxurious hotel where she's supposed to
meet (& spend teh night with) a man from an escort service. Small fry
olicitor Jerry (Peter Davison) meanwhile stays at the same hotel on company
expenses, but it is visibly way above his lifestyle. A former schoolmate
(Andrew Bicknell) he bumps into however decides to play a trick on him &
tells him he can get a prostitute for the night by winking 3 times at the
porter (Terry Wallis) & saying his roomnumber - which of course is a
blatant lie, but Jerry tries it anyhow, convinced he is ordering a prostitute. But
Babs's & Jerry's keys get mixed up, so at first Jerry, when in the dark
sneaking under the blankets of the one who's already in bed, has to realize to
his horror it's a man (Babs's escort, while later, back in his room, he
welcomes Babs under the assumption that she is his call girl, while she enters
the room thinking he's her escort. So under these false pretenses, they spend a
wonderful night together, but the next day, it's a bad waking up, as they find
out neither is what the other expected ... Flash forward ten years: A
remarkably secure Babs & a hugely successful Jerry meet again in the same
hotelroom, celebrating the 10th anniversary of their first night, that brought
the change in both their lives ... This synopsis might actually
sound a bit sleazier than the show really was, but beneath it all, it's a
good-natured comedy which is carried by good dialogues & quite competent
characters/actors.
