Reluctantly, surgeon Doctor Sandy (John Alderton) accepts a gift - a priceless
diamnond - from one of his patients, Prince Zawi (Raad Rawi), whose life he has
saved in a routine operation, a stone he thinks much to valuable for his
services.
& the stone doesn't seem to bring him good luck either, as while he
& his wife Betty (Alison Fiske) are still planning how to responsibly spend
the money they could get for it, some third party already starts showing
interest in the form of James (John Skitt) & Jane (Devon Scott) who
search their house at the first convenient moment, but they fail to find the
diamond that's in the deep freezer with the ice ... unfortunately though the
girl swallows the diamond, thinking it to be an icecube, & lands on the
operating table herself.
& 2 of the hospitals personnel, Sister Wyman (Shirley Cain) &
William (Jonathan Coy) - Sandy's colleagues who have no idea that it is in fact
his diamond - find it in her body, & - wanting to make a litle money on the
side - bring it to the very same jeweller (Thorley Walters) doc Sandy has
brought the diamond to in the first place ... whereupon the jeweller phones
Sandy & the police.
Fortunately for them though, Sandy can relieve his colleagues of any
suspicion since he has a pretty good idea about what happened the night before
... but unfortunately he has nothing better to do than to drop the diamond into
his wife's drink ...
As with so many episodes of Tales of the Unexpected, this one is done rather
uninterestingly on a pure cinematic level, but a wonerfully told ironic story
& solid acting from all of the involved still makes it worthwhile.
