While partying in the country, a sextet of teens destroy the idol of a baby god ...
and that's when they start to hear a baby crying. Soon after that, one of
them, Ai (Mayuka Suzuki) disappears, another, Akihiko (Toshihiro Wada)
dies of fright, apparently, Rieka (Asami Mizukawa), the most level-headed
of the group sees yet another one of them (Chisato Morishita) disappear into thin air in a changing
room - but instead there is some strange being there ... The surviving
three teens figure out the whole thing has to do something with the idol
of the baby god and fix it and worship it to make amends - but the curse
is not lifted, as all of a sudden, one of them, Keitaro (Tomihisa Yuge),
headbangs himself to death. Eventually, Ai is found, in a catatonic
state but alive, but before she can answer any questions, she hangs
herself, leaving behind the key to a coin locker and a spooky baby-like
being. Rieka and Ryubei, the only other survivor of the group, pay a visit
to the coin locker, into which Ryubei is sucked, disappearing into
oblivion, before Rieka figures everything out: There is an urban legend
according to which a mother killed her baby by locking it into the locker
- exactly the locker the teens used for their stuff before going to the
country - and now all the spirit of the baby wants is some love and
affection ... which Rieka is willing to give. Yet in the end, the whole
experience puts Rieka into a catatonic state, much like Ai before her, and
eventually, the locker key is passed on to her friend, highschool freshman
Ayano (Maki Horikita) ... Mediocre piece of Japanese horror
that tries too hard to remain mysterious to make all that much sense (it's
hard to follow the plot if you don't know what the characters are running
from) while
its plot as such is too firmly rooted in the film's urban legends-premise
to uphold interest throughout, while the direction does rather little to
add any special flavour to it's tried-and-true story. That's not to say The
Locker is too bad a movie ... it's just not all that interesting let
alone original.
