Documentary filmmaker Ellie Thornton (Mel Hayward) has made the Cornwall Ufologists the subject of her latest film, hoping to get a somewhat sensationalist story out of them. Thing is, the four members of the club - ex-RAF man and teamleader Percival (Derek Frood), serial alien abductee Gorran (Steven Powell), wheelchair-bound David (Paul Henshall) who thinks himself a genius bigger than Stephen Hawking, and Raun "Starman" (Jason Gregg) - are anything but specialists in their field and have little method to what they're doing, so their excursions usually leave them empty-handed, their theories are usually ill-founded, plus they lack the shred of an evidence for the existence of UFOs.

Given its subject matter, Ufologists is pretty much as unspectacular as they come - and that's exactly what makes the film so hilarious, it's just fun to see these guys trying and basically failing. What makes this a good film though rather than just a series of jokes is that its story has a lot of heart, and even though the four leads are all slight idiots, they're also very relatable, likeable even, thanks to an intelligent script and also a strong small ensemble cast. And the sum of all of this is just great entertainment.
