Even though it's his day off, model cop Chan (Francis Ng) gets himself
involved in a shoot-out, during which
a) he kills an innocent girl, and
b) his own wife Sammi (Athena Chu) is hit by a bullet that sends her
into a coma for a few days.
Later when Sammi comes out of her coma, she sees ghosts and has
premonitions of murders, but her hubby Chan thinks she's just hysterical,
and he doesn't even take some time off to help her through her hard time.
Instead he investigates a killing spree of a serial murder who, as a
trademark, always leaves a hole in the neck of his victims, just where
Chan has hit the innocent girl at the beginning of the film.
Sammi's ghostly visions meanwhile become ever clearer, until it turns
out the ghost she is seeing is Kitty Chow (Tiffany Lee), exactly the
innocent girl her husband shot. And Sammi also has visions about exactly
the killing spree her husband is invetigating ... and ultimately, thanks
to her visions, she is able to find one of the victims of the serial
killer before the police (or anyone else) does.
But how come, does she have supernatural powers ?
The answer, of course, lies somewhere else: It turns out that Doctor Ko
(Nick Cheung), the doctor who was treating her, was the boyfriend of Kitty
Chow, who now wants to have his revenge on Chan, who has killed her ...
and to that end he has killed all those people and hypnotized Sammi into
believing she sees ghosts ... Plus, all of Ko's victims have an extremely
rare blood type, just like Sammi ...
In the end, Ko has taken Sammi hostage and cut her wrists, so she will
slowly bleed to death shouldn't she get a blood transfusion in time. Then,
Ko has lured Chan to his place, to make him see her die. Ko is very sure
his plan will work, so he even gives Chan a gun, tells him that he, Ko, is
the only one who can help her, then has himself shot by Chan (hell, Ko
himself even pulls the trigger). The ambulance arrives jsut in time, but
it seems without the right blood, Sammi will die one way or another ...
until Chan puts two and two together and figures that Ko must be the last
man in Hong Kong with Sammi's bloodtype - and ultimately, this saves her
life, and possibly also Sammi's and Chan's marriage.
The film is not all bad and the script has its interesting moments -
but seen as a whole, the plot is just too far fetched to really remain
believable, and the film is not at all helped by a directing job that
remains remarkably free of atmosphere throughout and misses all
opportunities to make the film genuinely creepy - which is rather a pity,
actually. Still, as I said, the film is not all bad ... but it's not good,
either.
