Matt (Jack Sutherland), an Afghanistan veteran dishonourably discharged
from service, finds it incredibly difficult to find a footing back home -
especially with the "dishonourable discharge"-stain to his
career he's not likely to get decent work anywhere. Plus he's haunted by
his past, always on the brink of a mental breakdown. He has of late moved
to a riverboat, and actually likes living on water. And he has a wife
(Sophie Fisher) looking after him, and his wife's sister (Emily Marven)
loves to flirt with him which makes him feel more like a man - much to his
wife's dismay. But given his mental condition, are his wife and her sister
even real or just memories from times long gone, or just figments of his
imagination? A rather intense little movie as it takes us right
into its protagonist's head, with all the tricks his imagination might
play on him, thus we're participating in the nightmare he's going through.
But what makes this movie is that it's cleverly enough written to not just
lose itself in its bad trip scenario but bring structure to its
protagonist's story, to make the ultimate reveal all the more haunting.
And thanks to an atmosphere heavy directorial effort and a very solid
central performance by Jack Sutherland, this has turned into a movie that
you're not all that likely to forget.
