Two archeologists aurvey an ancient Egyptian tomb, and one of them
finds a scroll - upon which the other falls under a spell, very
originating emanating from the sarcophagus in the tomb, and smashes his
colleague's head in with an ancient weapon on hand. Coming to his senses
shortly thereafter, he has a vision of a mummy that again puts him under a
spell, so when another archeologist comes looking after his colleagues and
finds the dead body, the possessed archeologist steals away with the
scroll ... Considering this was an indie film produced
completely outside the Hollywood system (even its poverty row offshoot),
this is a very remarkable little horror thriller, really, as it shows very
effective camerawork, a genre-savvy direction high on creepy atmosphere,
and quite some care that would put at least some of Universal's
Mummy movies to shame (granted, probably not Karl Freund's The
Mummy, but the studios 1940s output for sure). Unfortunately, this
movie only exists as a circa 6 minute fragment, and it's unclear whether
the movie was ever made as a whole - but if not, it sure should have been!
