Direct sequel to The
Creature from the Black Lagoon: Captain Lucas (Nestor Paiva) takes
another expedition, led by Joe Hayes (John Bromfield), back to the lagoon
to catch the creature (played by Ricou Browning while in water, by Tom
Hennesy when on land) ... and this time, the expedition succeeds, using a
method that resembles dynamite fishing. The captured creature is then
brought to the Oceanarium in Florida and immediately exposed to a paying
audience, while scientists Clete (John Agar) and Helen (Lori Nelson) - who
of course fall in love while working with each other - study the
creature's behaviour and intelligence. Eventually though, the creature
cannot take anymore and breaks out, and since he has fallen in love with
Helen, he kindaps her. But in the end, he is hunted down and shot by a
search party led by Clete in whose arms Helen ends - rather expectedly.
Despite a change of scenery and a more sicentific approach, The
Revenge of the Creature does not manage to add anything new or
original to the Creature from the Black Lagoon-myth -
basically it's just the same story told in different (and less
pittoresque) surroundings. Plus, way too much time is spent with the set
up of the plot - time that contains way too much pseudo-scientific
mumbojumbo - and way too little time with the actual monster storyline.
Not really good, but The Revenge of the Creature's sequel, The
Creature Walks Among Us would be way worse.
