This show actually consists of 4 seperate sketches:
In Reactions to a Fight, host Red Skelton does pantomimes
portraying people watching a prizefight ... which is actually quite funny,
since pantomime was clearly Skelton's strength.
In News on the BBC, Skelton plays a British newscaster, which is
moderately funny at first, but within a minute, Skelton runs out of jokes
about the British, within two minutes, Skelton runs out of jokes ...
unfortunately the sketch runs waayy longer than two minutes ...
In Pedestrian Polo, Skelton explains a new sport which
essentially is running one's car over pedestrians. While the basic idea is
actually quite funny in a macabre way (and was later made into a cool
movie, Death Race 2000), Skelton manages to not squeeze a single
joke out of the whole thing.
The centerpiece of this episode though is How to Make a Salad,
where soldier Skelton has to make a salad for his regiment of a thousand
soldiers ... and once again, Skelton does manage to get not a single
joke out of that premise.
In all, Skelton is good when he does pantomime, as soon as he starts
telling jokes however, it gets less funny, not at all helped by the fact
that Skelton often laughs about his own jokes before he tells the
punchline ... a big no-no.
