The earth's sun is showing sudden energy outbursts that threaten to
destroy teh world before long, while on other, formerly barren planets,
start to grow vegetation and show earthlike conditions. On one such
planet, the crew of the Orion under commander McLane (Dietmar Schönherr)
picks up two scientists (Walter Gnilka, Wilfried von Aacken) who turn out
to be not from earth at all but from Chroma, a forgotten earth colony that
completely split off from the motherplanet 400 years ago, after the first
Cosmic War. From the scientists, the earth gouvernment learns that the sun
of Chroma is dieing, and to have a proper substitute, the good folks from
Chroma have decided to power up the earth's sun - even if that would mean
the total annihilation of earth.
In an effort to save earth, McLane and crew travel to Chroma to show
the Chroma leader an alternative to power up the sun: to turn one of the
planetoids that have just started to grow vegetation, into a substitute
sun - which is technically possible.
Thing is ... much to macho man McLane's shock, the leader of Chroma,
much like most of the planet's elite, turns out to be a woman (Margot
Trooger), and McLane seems to be unable to get through to her, even though
the destruction of Chroma by the earth gouvernment seems to be imminent.
Things are not made any better when Tamara Jagellovsk (Eva Pflug),
McLane's crewmate and former nemesis, makes a desperate attempt to save
McLane - but only lands both of them in a prison cell, where they prepare
to die with all the rest of Chroma - and confess their love to each other.
But in an underwhelming finale, Chroma's leader has decided to halt the
experiment's with earth's sun and has thus saved Chroma from certain doom
... and the Orion with its crew is allowed to return to earth - all but
McLane, who stays behind as a liasion officer.
One of the weaker episodes of Raumpatrouille, a story
that lacks a real climax and is poor on actual action and effects.Only
seeing McLane on a planet gouverned by women generates a chuckle or two.
