Matchmaker Harry introduces young and wealthy widow May (Joy Page) to
European millionaire Paul Rostand, who pretty much promises her heaven on
earth, and as a proof of his vast fortune, he has a stamp collection with
him that fellow collector West is more than keen to buy. Then though,
problems arise when Paul can't transfer his money from Europe to America
quickly enough, and to ensure his cashflow, May buys his stamp collection
behind his back for $ 10,000, with the intention to return it to him at
their wedding - you see, she can't just give him the money because, as
Harry puts it, he is too proud. But after Paul has the money, he, Harry
and West disappear, and when May has the $ 10,000 stamp collection
assessed, she finds out that it's just worth $ 75 ... But she also meets
police captain Braddock (Reed Hadley), whose men are quick to arrest the
whole gang of con men - though that happens entirely off-screen. Unfortunately,
most of this story is told in flashback, and thus you know the whole stamp
collection thing is a con from the start - which pretty much takes much of
the suspense out of the episode. Add to that a finale (the conmen being
arrested by the police) that is only narrated by Reed Hadley, and you are
left with rather little. Bit of a disappointment.
